Draw rectangles over sensitive areas
Our free online photo censoring tool lets you protect privacy by blurring or pixelating sensitive areas in your images. Perfect for hiding faces, obscuring text, redacting personal information, covering license plates, and protecting identities in photos. Simply draw rectangles over areas you want to censor and choose between smooth blur or blocky pixelation effects. All processing happens locally in your browser for complete privacy - your images never leave your device.
Blur (Smooth Effect) creates a soft, gradual transition that makes censored areas appear out of focus. Blur is ideal when you want a professional, subtle appearance. It works well for faces, backgrounds, and situations where you want the censoring to be less obvious. Blur intensity of 15-25px is typically sufficient for most purposes. Higher values (30-50px) create stronger obscuring for highly sensitive information.
Pixelate (Blocky Effect) creates the classic "pixelated" look seen in media censoring, with distinct square blocks. Pixelation is more recognizable as intentional censoring and is preferred for obvious redaction needs. It's excellent for faces in journalistic contexts, license plates, and situations where you want it clear that information has been deliberately hidden. Pixel sizes of 10-20 work for most cases, while 30-50 provides maximum obscuring.
Both methods are equally effective at hiding information - the choice is primarily aesthetic and contextual. Blur tends to look more natural and less distracting, while pixelation makes it obvious that censoring has occurred. You can mix both methods in the same image for different areas.
