Split multiple images at once horizontally, vertically, or into grids. Divide images into equal parts for social media carousels, printing, or creative projects.
Each image will be split into 2 pieces
The Bulk Image Splitter Tool is a powerful browser-based utility for dividing multiple images into equal parts. Whether you need to create Instagram carousel posts, design grid layouts, or split images for printing, this tool handles batch processing efficiently with three splitting modes: horizontal, vertical, and grid.
All processing happens locally in your browser using HTML5 Canvas, ensuring your images remain private and secure. Split images into 2-10 pieces (or up to 25 for grids), download individual pieces or organized ZIP archives, and create engaging social media content or creative projects with ease.
Image splitting divides a single image into multiple smaller pieces. Horizontal mode splits the image into equal rows (top to bottom), vertical mode splits into equal columns (left to right), and grid mode divides into a matrix of equally-sized pieces (e.g., 3×3 creates 9 pieces). Each piece maintains the original image quality and is saved as a separate PNG file.
Horizontal splits images into stacked rows (useful for Instagram carousels or vertical scrolling), Vertical splits into side-by-side columns (good for panoramic effects or wide displays), and Grid splits into a matrix of tiles (perfect for puzzles, Instagram grid posts, or wall art arrangements). Grid mode creates more pieces: a 3×3 grid produces 9 pieces, while 3 horizontal or vertical splits create only 3 pieces.
Image splitting is essential for Instagram carousel posts (split vertically for swipe-through panoramas), Instagram grid aesthetics (3×3 splits for cohesive profile grids), printing large images across multiple pages for posters, creating image puzzles or games, panoramic photo displays, wall art installations, social media engagement (reveal posts), email marketing layouts, web design components, and educational materials requiring sectioned images.
Each original image creates a folder in the ZIP download. Inside each folder, pieces are numbered sequentially: piece-1, piece-2, etc. For horizontal splits, pieces go top to bottom. For vertical splits, pieces go left to right. For grid splits, pieces are numbered row by row (left to right, top to bottom). You can also download individual pieces directly from the preview grid with hover controls.
The tool calculates piece dimensions using integer division (Math.floor). If dimensions don't divide evenly, the last piece in each direction includes any remaining pixels. For example, splitting a 1000px wide image into 3 vertical pieces creates two 333px pieces and one 334px piece. This ensures no content is lost and all pieces cover the entire original image.
Absolutely! For Instagram carousels, use vertical mode with 2-10 splits. Instagram allows up to 10 images per carousel. Split your panoramic or wide image vertically, and users can swipe through the pieces to reveal the full image. This creates engaging, interactive content. For Instagram grid posts (9-tile grids on your profile), use grid mode with 3×3 splits.
No, splitting is a lossless operation. Each piece contains the exact pixels from that region of the original image—no resampling, compression, or quality loss occurs. The pieces are saved as PNG to maintain maximum quality. When reassembled, the pieces would perfectly recreate the original image. Resolution and detail are fully preserved in every split piece.
For horizontal and vertical splits, you can create 2-10 pieces. For grid splits, you can create 2×2 (4 pieces) up to 5×5 (25 pieces). More pieces create smaller tiles, which may be harder to view individually. For Instagram grids, 3×3 (9 pieces) is standard. For carousels, 3-5 vertical pieces work well. Adjust based on your use case and desired piece size.
Yes! After processing, hover over any piece in the preview grid to reveal a download button. Click it to download that specific piece. This is useful if you only need certain sections or want to download pieces selectively. For bulk downloading all pieces from all images, use the 'Download All as ZIP' button which organizes everything into folders.
To reassemble, arrange pieces according to their numbers: horizontal pieces stack vertically (1 on top, last on bottom), vertical pieces align horizontally (1 on left, last on right), and grid pieces form rows (piece 1-3 = top row, 4-6 = middle row, 7-9 = bottom row for 3×3). Most image editors support manual arrangement, or you can use our Bulk Merge Image tool to programmatically combine them.
